Unfortunately, Diablo 2 Resurrected does not support crossplay nor cross platform coop multiplayer at launch. So, if you were planning to play with your friends on different platforms, it will not be possible. You can only play with those who are on the same platform as you.
Indeed, fans must go through Blizzard's servers in order to join up with a friend, and that may be slightly disappointing to players that were looking for a couch co-op game.
Diablo 2 was very much meant for multiplayer. And of course, Diablo 3 strengthened that even more, and solidified it with Couch co-op for all consoles, up to 4 players, with a camera that allows people to play both melee and ranged. Diablo 2 is not exempt from this. A zooming in/out camera is not new tech.
